POPIT SYSTEM - INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The PopIt System diskette includes an automated INSTALL procedure.
IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH YOUR INSTALLATION, PLEASE CALL US
AND WE'LL GUIDE YOU THROUGH THE PROCESS!
NOTE: The system diskette contains all you need to install and use
the PopIt System. However, the file, POP_S.EXE, on the system
diskette, is a self-extracting archive file (in compressed
form). POP_S.EXE is the non-registered version.
BEFORE YOU CAN USE THE SYSTEM, THE FILES MUST BE DECOMPRESSED --
THAT IS, YOU CANNOT RUN THE SYSTEM WITHOUT FIRST INSTALLING IT
AND DECOMPRESSING THE FILES. SYSTEM INSTALLATION REQUIRES A HARD
DISK WITH AT LEAST 2,000,000 BYTES OF FREE SPACE.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS IN
INSTALLING THE SYSTEM!
1. MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
(a) An IBM or 100% compatible '286 or higher PC with 640K RAM
(a '386 or better recommended)
(b) DOS 3.3 or higher (version 5.0 or higher recommended)
(c) One high density diskette drive (either 5.25" or 3.50")
(d) One hard disk drive with at least 2MB free space
(e) Monitor (color EGA or VGA - VGA recommended)
(f) One printer

│ For QEMM Users Only: │
│ │
│ If you have 1 meg of RAM or more and are using QEMM as │
│ your memory manager, we recommend that you add the following │
│ to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file: │
│ │
│ d:\xxxx\LOADHI /R:2 d:\xxxx\FILES +60 │
│ │
│ where 'd:' is the drive on which QEMM resides and '\xxxx' is │
│ the directory in which it resides. │

2. CHANGES TO YOUR CONFIG.SYS FILE
If you are NOT using any type of high memory manager, such as QEMM,
where you have designated the number of files DOS needs to open, you
need to add/change the following commands in your CONFIG.SYS file:
FILES=70
BUFFERS=30
NOTE: INSTALL WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY MAKE THESE CHANGES FOR YOU!
4. INSTALLING THE SYSTEM - A STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURE
Once you have made the changes indicated in 2 and 3 above, following
these simple steps to install the system.
(a) Start your computer as your normally do.
(b) If you are not already there, go to your DOS prompt, which
should look something like:
C:\ >
(c) Insert the PopIt system diskette into your diskette drive.
(d) Change your current default drive to the diskette drive in which
you inserted the PopIt system diskette. You do this by typing
the name of the drive followed by a colon. For example:
A: and press ENTER
changes the default drive to the A: drive.
(e) At the DOS prompt, type: INSTALL and press ENTER.
This will start the automated installation procedure.
(f) Install presents you with a menu with three choices:
- Proceed.... continues with the installation
- Show....... allows you to view the installation
defaults before you begin or to view
the options you entered in response
to the prompts that follow when you
select Proceed....
- Quit....... quit and return back to DOS
To proceed with the installation, select PROCEED WITH
INSTALLATION.
(g) Install asks you to confirm the source diskette drive -- the
diskette drive that contains the PopIt system diskette. To
confirm, simply type: Y (for Yes) -- do NOT press ENTER
NOTE: You can abort the installation process at any time by
pressing CTRL C.
(h) Install asks you to confirm the hard disk you want to install
to. Install defaults to drive C. If you want to accept the
default, type Y (for Yes) and do NOT press ENTER.
If you want to change the hard drive default, first type N and
do NOT press ENTER (for No in response to the prompt), then type
in just the DRIVE LETTER of the hard drive you want to install
to and press ENTER. Do NOT include the colon.
For example, if you prefer to use your D drive, simply
type: D and press ENTER.
(i) Install asks you to confirm the directory into which you want to
install the system. Install defaults to the \VMCPOP directory.
If you want to accept the default, type Y and do NOT press
ENTER.
If you want to change the directory, first type N and do NOT
press ENTER (for No), then type in the directory you want to
install into and press ENTER.
Do NOT worry. If Install does not find the directory on the
drive you selected, it will create it!
(j) Install asks you to confirm your entries. If you want to proceed
and accept the entries, type Y (for Yes) and do NOT press ENTER.
If you want to make any changes, type N (for No) and do NOT
press ENTER. If you want to make changes, the process repeats
from step (g) above.
(k) Once you confirm your options, installation proceeds. Install
will keep you informed as to its progress.
(l) If/when installation completes successfully, you are so
informed. If installation encounters any problems, you will be
so informed to make the appropriate corrections and repeat the
process.
(m) That's all there is to it!
When Install completes, it leaves you in the directory into which it
installed the system. If you want to begin immediately -- that is,
to start the PopIt System, simply type:
SVMCPOP and press ENTER
(n) We strongly recommend that you print out a copy of the the
system's User Manual. The User Manual is contained in the file
MANUAL.DOC, which is nothing more but an ASCII text file. You
can use any text editor or word processor to print the manual.
Another easy way is to enter the following command at your DOS
prompt:
COPY MANUAL.DOC > prn and press ENTER
or
TYPE MANUAL.DOC > prn and press ENTER
or
PRINT MANUAL.DOC and press ENTER
(If you use the PRINT command above and your
system displays a [prn] prompt, simply press
ENTER to continue.)
(o) The manual includes a registration form/invoice for you to
complete in order to register your copy of the system.
In addition, we have included a file, INVOICE.DOC which is the
registration form/invoice by itself.
You may follow the same procedure to print INVOICE.DOC out on
your printer as you did for the User Manual in step (n) above.
